Question: Can living on a diet of milkshakes and cigarettes make you sick, in the short term?

No I'm not asking this as a joke. Obviously it will long term, but I mean short term. I know someone who literally LIVES on milkshakes, McDonalds, and bunch of cigarettes (hard to tell how many, she's sneaky about them). She's very obsese, most of the time won't even so much as walk up the stairs if she wants something, she'll yell at her kids to fetch things for her. She's sick all the time. For example, when I got a strain of a bug going around, I was sick for a little over 2 days, and never got terribly sick. For her, she was very sick over a week.

Yes, your friend probably has nutritional deficienies that cause her to feel fatigue and have a weakened immune system. The smoking puts her at risk for respiratory infections. She must have diarrhea constantly with her high fat low fiber diet.

Most unhealthy things are ok in the short term - as in a few days to a week or so. But obviously, long term there are dramatic and dangerous side effects like heart disease, high blood pressure and of course lung cancer from the cigarettes. So living like this for a week isn't advised, but once you stop, you'll likely fully recover within a few days. But for someone who's been living like that for months or years, the damages are a lot harder to undo.
