No concentrated sweets, limit carbs in bread for a start. Go to webMD.com for specific answers. You MD or dietary dept at the local nursing homs can give you a print out from dietary books to follow. |

I followed the Zone diet (see the library link at hufa.org for more info), until I found that being diabetic can help bring on a candida (yeast) fungus infestation. So now I am on a diet for that, that is definitely lowering my blood sugars. So much so that I am able to sustain them by diet alone. There is info about yeast at hufa.org too. |

Hi, I'm a diabetic and have been for 12 years. Basically, eat a non sugary cereal for breakfast, (300 calories) with semi skimmed milk, a piece of fruit for morning snack (100), a sandwich for lunch preferably on danish bread, (300) another piece of fruit for afternoon snack, or a cereal bar, raisins, or a pack of crisps (100), a balanced meal, for dinner, eg. jacket potato, chicken fillet and salad, or chilli con carne with salad, or a pasta dish, (approx 600), then a digestive biscuit, or more fruit, or a piece of toast for evening snack (100). There you go, 1500 calories, 3 healthy meals and 3 snacks! It's not hard if you just completely cut out sweets and chocolate! Good luck! |

Read "The Zone ", or the new "Atkins " or the "Southbeach Diet " book. All written by MD's. Read the research---limit or eliminate highly processed foods, especially refined carbohydrates from your diet. No flour (it digests differently than bread made from whole, naturally femented grain) no white rice, no baked potatoes, no processed breakfast cereals, no white tortillas, chips, cookies, muffins, scones, highly sugared desserts, etc. Have 1/ 6 to 1/ 2 piece of fruit or a few berries at a time. Eat small oamounts of raw nuts, like almonds or filberts or pecans, and seeds (sunflower and pumkin---just a few, like on a salad). "The pH cure " is the best, tho. "green drinks " , but my 25 year old friend was completely cured of diabetes while on it. Try eating 80% whole, fresh, raw foods, 20% cooked. A little protein, a little fat, a little bit of carbohydrate every day, and LOTS of raw, green veggies (not carrots, beets, onions radishes---not the root vegetables). Avocados are good for you, and so is raw coconut oil. Read and learn. Everything is opposite from what we've been brainwashed with for the last 50 years---the BS that keeps the whole expensive health care system going. Doesn't anyone read anymore????? |

You should read "Diabetes 101: Understanding and Controlling Diabetes "...it has everything you need to know about diabetes as a disease as well as an entire section on diabetic diets. It is available at atcpharmacist.com (click on diabetes on the left hand side) and it is an excellent ebook on diabetes for only $3.50. It helped my aunt and neighbor a great deal. |
